Roz e Arafah. The Day of Arafah which is the 9th of Dhul Hijjah – the same day as the murder of Hazrat Muslim ibne Aqil (peace be upon him) is one of self-introspection and reflection on the bounties and graces which we have been conferred with.‚Arafah literally means to gain a deep understanding (marifah). A deep understanding of the beginning (of creation) and the end of all creation: a deep knowledge of Prophethood (Nubuwah) and Mastership (Wilayah): knowledge of the vista of the horizons and of the souls: a deep knowledge of all of these things and how they relate to Allah (Glory and Greatness be to Him).During this blessed day, those who are not in the Hajj have also been advised to fast and engage in prayer and worship – and what prayer can be greater than the Prayers of Arafah from Imam Husain (peace be upon him) and Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) as have been mentioned in Mafaatihul Jinan? In the beautiful prayer of Arafah from the leader of the martyrs, Imam Husain (peace be upon him), we read the following petition: O God

Commemorating the 10th of Imam Husayn (a.s.).The massacre in Kerbala had taken place just days ago, however the grief, anguish and most difficult of times lay ahead for the surviving members of the caravan of the Imam. The first 10 days after the martyrdom of Abi Abdillah al-Husain (peace be upon him) saw despicable acts brought upon the family of the Prophet in a bid to humiliate and break their spirit – something which could never be accomplished.Historical works narrate that after the dust had settled and the evil deed of Ibne Ziyaad and his soldiers had been accomplished, the entire family were brought to Kufah to be presented to Ibne Marjaana (the self-proclaimed leader appointed by Yazid).

Commemorating (Chehlum) the 40th of Imam Husayn (a.s.).The 40th [Arbaeen or Chehlum] marks an important turning point in the movement of Kerbala. This day, which is no less important to the day of Aashura is important for many reasons Рthe prime being that the Ahlu’l Bayt reached the land of Kerbala on this day and performed the visitation to Sayyid ash-Shuhada al-Husain and the loyal family and friends who gave their life for the cause of Islam.Although the historians differ on when this event transpired: some say it was in the same year of the massacre in Kerbala in the year 61 AH, whilst other say it was in the following year. Whatever the case, the atrocities and difficulties which the family were put through in the court of Yazid and the long ride to Kerbala culminated on the 20th of Safar on the empty plains of Kerbala.Ziyarat-e-Arbaeen

Commemorating the Death of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.) 11 A.H.The month of Safar ends with the death of numerous personalities – the Prophet of Islam being one of them. The man who was like no other left this world on the 28th of Safar after having brought the Arabian peninsula under the banner of Monotheism. In tribute to the man whom Allah has honoured with sending prayers upon and commanding His Angels and the believers to do the same, we take this opportunity to educate ourselves, albeit in great brevity, on the life of the Seal of the Prophets.Commemorating the Martyrdom of Imam Hasan (a.s.) 50 A.H.
